On March 6, the Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations (SCRA) Mubariz Gurbanli met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Azerbaijan Bavitlung Vanlalvawna.
During the meeting, the Chairman Mubariz Gurbanli gave detailed information on the provision of freedom of conscience specified in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, regulation of relations between state and religion, government’s care to the religion, activities of the State Committee in these directions. At the same time, the Chairman of the Committee also spoke on the atmosphere of tolerance that is prevailing in our country, co-operation based on mutual respect and trust between different religions and confessions. Representatives of various religions are always surrounded by the attention and care of the state. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev allocates funds to support the activities of religious confessions each year. Monuments that belong to different religions in the country are preserved and one of the examples is the “Fire Temple of Baku” that is called “Ateshgah” which contains the traces of beliefs to the fire, Mr. Gurbanli expressed.
The Ambassador also got informed about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Armenian occupation of lands of Azerbaijan as a result of the conflict, ethnic cleansing against hundreds of thousands Azerbaijanis, violence on religious grounds, destruction of historical and religious monuments by Armenians.
In his turn, sharing his positive impressions about the country's development, the ambassador mentioned that, existence of tolerant and multicultural environment in Azerbaijan, equal conditions that have been created for all religious confessions and the experience of the state in this area should be considered as an example for the whole world and friendly relations between two nations based on historical roots indicates itself in the promotion of relations in different areas at present.
During the meeting that was held in the atmosphere of mutual respect and sincerity, Mr. Bavitlung Vanlalvawna, the Ambassador of the Republic of India thanked to the Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations (SCRA) Mubariz Gurbanli for the warm welcoming. At the end of the meeting, the guest was presented books published by the SCRA in English on the religious tolerance environment and the Armenian vandalism against our material-cultural heritage.
