On January 31, Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SCRA), Mubariz Gurbanlı met with delegation led by Zhanseit K. Tuimbebayev, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, Head of the Secretariat of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
The Chairman of the Committee touched upon the friendly relations which have historical roots between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, as well as the importance of relations within the framework in bilateral and international organizations. He noted that our relations which established by the leaders of both nations Heydar Aliyev and Nursultan Nazarbay and based on historical roots today successfully continue under the leadership of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Ilham Aliyev and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The chairman Mr. Mubariz Gurbanli also emphasized that Kazakhstan always supports Azerbaijan's rightful position in international and regional organizations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Speaking about the state religion relations, peaceful coexistence of different confessions and ethnic groups, the tradition of multiculturalism and tolerance, Mr. Gurbanli noted that much work has been done in the field of protection of national and moral values in Azerbaijan, strengthening of respect for Islam and tolerance against other religions. The head of state signed a number of decrees and orders on the reconstruction and restoration of historical and architectural monuments, places of worship and belief as well as provision of financial assistance to religious organizations.
Speaking about the activities of the State Committee and emphasizing the significant issues has been done in this direction of the fight against religious radicalism, chairman noted adoption of the law "On the fight against religious extremism" opens wide opportunities for combating this problem. He also considered the establishment of the Moral Values Promotion Fund and The Institute of Theology under the State Committee as an important step in the preservation and development of the religious and spiritual environment.
Highly appreciating the interreligious harmony and solidarity existing in Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, Head of the Secretariat of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan gave information about the religious situation in his country. He noted that Kazakhstan has established the legal and social base for the development of various cultures and confessions, and there is no conflict on national and religious grounds.
During the meeting both sides exchanged views on the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and further deepening of religious relations. At the end of the meeting which was also attended by Rashad Mamedov - Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serjan Abdikarimov, and members of the delegation were presented books published by the State Committee.
